An Observation

In my efforts to find topics to write about, I’ve been checking various web sites. The site I frequently visit is US Diving On Line and always go directly to the president’s report to see if there is any information. At the time of this writing (July 24) the president has not written anything new since last April’s message.

A couple of years ago I made a suggestion to the president that more frequent shorter articles would be easier for him to produce. It would also keep coaches going to the site, which would make any sponsors happy. He started off doing exactly that but has now apparently discontinued that practice. I can’t believe that there is nothing happening in the organization for him to write about. A good topic for him to discuss would be why a recent potential sponsor backed away. My understanding is that the sponsor was an insurance company. If that was the case, I couldn’t imagine a better sponsor to have backing our sport. To me it would lend a lot more credibility to the safety aspect of the sport. What happened? Another topic would be to explain why a CEO is being considered to run the organization, which would reduce the effectiveness of any future president. I don’t see how this will improve our status in International Competition.

Another observation pertains to the LRP, which still appears to be going. Various coaches have told me that Hobie was kicked off the LRP committee. Realistically I believe that he wasn’t invited back to give input into that committee because the musical chair people didn’t agree with what he had to say. They just don’t want to hear what’s wrong with the organization. If we go a little further with the LRP thought, why isn’t Wingfield on this committee? He is directly involved with a training site. He will have to carry out the plan as it is developed. He can see the impact any of the details have upon implementation. Apparently they don’t want to hear from him either.

It becomes harder for me to understand how the members allow these people to set the tone for the organization when many disagree and are dissatisfied with the direction we seem to be headed.
